FAC Members provide input to AAAS on the Science & Technology Policy Fellowship Program

Rockville, MD; November 8, 2021 — Ripple Effect®, a private consulting company focused on supporting federal and private clients, primarily in the biomedical sciences and health spaces, announces that their Chief Operating Officer and co-owner, Dr. Jennifer Pohlhaus, has been named to the Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF) Fellowships Advisory Committee (FAC) of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

“I am honored and delighted to have been selected to the FAC,” Dr. Pohlhaus said. “I started my science policy career as a fellow in the STPF Program, so I understand both the competitive nature and caliber of scientists who become fellows, as well as the responsibility to help lead and guide this vital organization.”

The FAC represents a broad cross-section of individuals who can provide input on STPF from a variety of perspectives and represents a range of diverse scientific disciplines. The Committee’s responsibilities include providing counsel on strategic planning efforts as well as broad policy and programmatic issues for the fellowship program. Dr. Pohlhaus’ term runs from 2021–2024.

Dr. Pohlhaus received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and a graduate certificate in health policy from Duke University. After graduation, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow in genomics science and policy at Duke before becoming an AAAS S&T Policy Fellow and working in the NIH’s Office of Research on Women’s Health. Throughout her career, Dr. Pohlhaus has been a passionate advocate for incorporating more voices from individuals that are often under-represented in the scientific enterprise — a goal she hopes to continue with this appointment.

“I am delighted that Dr. Pohlhaus has been appointed to the Committee,” said STPF Director, Dr. Rashada Alexander. “Her exemplary work advancing science, her passion for inclusivity, and her creative problem-solving skills make her an ideal choice. Her insight will be very much appreciated and valued. On a personal note, I’ve known her for over a decade and am excited to see her incisive and strategic thinking on the FAC.”
